Will a F100 rearend work well for a model A coupe, I believe they were about the right width and it would be an open driveshaft unit also.Help me out here guys, it's on craigslist in my area for $150.

Is it a Dana 44? If so it will do fine. You really need to know that it is a good quiet set of gears. The price to fix it would offset any deal.

You may want to keep in mind that the rear end will probably have a gear ratio in the neighborhood of 3.92:1. I just swapped out the rear end in my '55 F100 because it really wasn't highway friendly.

Also- just for reference I believe all F100's from 1953-1972 are all the same width. If you found a somewhat newer model you could have a 9" with vast parts availability. I swapped a '66 F100 rear end (9 inch) into mine with a much highway friendlier low 3's gear ratio. Just something to consider- they're still very common in most salvage yards for not much more that the $150 you're looking at paying for the CL axle.

If someone gave it to you it would be OK but I personally wouldn't pay for one...too many around (at least around here) that were left over from 9 inch transplants.

I would look for a 57 and up 9" much more choices and if it is a stock 55 F100 rear end, really nothing out there for parts, pretty scarce. I've changed out quite few stock 55 truck ones and as in the earlier post their usually not too highway friendly. Brakes would be a lot easier too.

Yes for what ford lacks in engine/trans conformity the rear axles in trucks will swap strait across from 1956-72, at least in all my trucks.

I think the truck rear would be to wide under an "A" woulden't it? For the same cash I'd try and find a rear out of a maverick or other small ford car, I think the Mav. rear I have is somewhere in the 56" range and would fit better.
