Since I never built a gasser I just "don't know".......so I'll axe What function does the heim joint play(connected to the motor mount position) when you already have motor plates positioning the engine?!
Sorta like wearing a belt AND suspenders?!!!

The rod with the hiems doesn’t hold it side to side, or from twisting. The front plate and mid plate hold it. The only thing is where they are flat plates they allow the engine to spring forward and backwards. The hiem rod just prevents that movement.

    interesting!
Never thought of that. IF the engine plates were STEEL....would that stop the front/back movement?

Actually the mid plate is steel. The steel plates are actually thinner than the aluminum plates to keep them at a comparable weight, so they still spring. You’d need like a 3/16 steel plate and that would weigh a ton. Lol

Any kind of front shock in a 90/10 or 70/30. This one has speedway 90/10 shocks, my 57 has Lakewood shocks.

Got one door hung and fitted properly, and both quarter patches put in. Quarters came out good for our first time doing them.

Man, these cars do have a lot of work completed on them to make them race worthy, much more now than the old days of B-Gas (maybe I was just lazy back then). I wonder why they don't have a class for altered wheelbase vehicles? Well keep up the good work and I guess you build these cars for the future pounding they are subject to.

I'm gonna say it's probably because Quain already has his hands full with the gas class.

They do have two AFX/altered WB cars that run exhibition between rounds, and Quain is open to others joining in with them, as long as they’re 4 speed and meet the SEGA visual rules. They’re allowed to run on alcohol in afx too. BE4B0E4C-AB62-4957-BF09-CB32059B0064.jpeg

Got it over to our friend and fellow Southeast Gassers racer Kelvin Cannons garage so we can get the body work done and get the metal in sealer primer so we can start sticking it together. The more I look at this car the more I believe that dads 55 is gonna be killer.

I built my '55 Gasser over 50 years ago from an East LA wrecking yard find. It's been covered here on the HAMB. Tube axle with Willy's spindles, '57 Olds/Pontiac rear, always a 4-speed and both a small block and a 427 big block. Ran 11.21 at 121mph with a carbureted 327 small block and a best of 10.80s at 129 with the big block. Last race for me was the '67 Winter Nationals in B/Gas. During the tech inspection my wheelbase was 2" too long because I had built the car to run brackets. I should have just raced in the altered class but we moved the axle back to maintain the stock wheelbase. I sold the car after the Winter Nationals and lost track of who owned it. I've been told that it was restored as a stock '55 and all the suspension, rollbar, etc was removed. It would have made a perfect nostalgia gasser for the current Southern Gasser events. To create the flair on the rear quarters I brazed copper tubing to the opening and used bondo for the flair. Your project is coming along great and will be a fun ride. Good luck with the completion. ^^^^^Beautiful car; seen several pics of "White Lightning" here on the HAMB and elsewhere ^^^^^. Nothing looks better on a Tri-Five Chevrolet than white paint and Cragar S/S rims. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

  29. The Cragar S/S wheel was made for Tri 5s, IMHO
