Working on a 1953 Ford Crestline convertible. Part of what I'm doing is just prettifying all the underhood pieces. I've got all the ventilation stuff off, blasting and painting. Inside one of the square ducts are these cardboard eggcrate pieces that are disintegrating. I got them out as one piece by popping the staples, but they are too fragile to go back in. My questions are these: what is the purpose of this device in the ventilation/heater system? Should I recreate it from sheet metal and put it back in? It's a customer car and she wants it done right, but I don't even know what the purpose of this thing is other than something to create laminar flow through the heater coil. I await the wisdom of the HAMB.
Thanks a lot @petew. Exactly what I'm looking for and I'd never known of that supplier either. viva la HAMB!
