That's the plan!!! I just wanted to solidify all the roof attachment points first. I'm wondering if I should do the lower body and floor repairs first for a more solid foundation before chopping the roof? On one hand, if I screw up the chop I'm not out anything other than time and some sheet metal. If I screw up after putting $$$$ into panels etc. =. I keep going back and forth on this. Thoughts and advice anyone?
I say, commit and do it right. Get a good foundation first. The extra time spent working less critical metal will undoubtedly come in handy when you move to the chop. My two cents.
Lookin at the work ya done so far i bet ya wont screw up the top. Im thinkin ya should go ahead and fix your floors and stuff first.
You need to get a solid floor in there before you do a chop. I'm in the process of making mine now, and it's not that hard. I'm just using a cheap Eastwood beadroller and sandbag and mallet. After all of the work you've done so far, you could do this in your sleep.
I just wanna say, do what you like, you are working metal like a God, your car is rotten everywhere, chop the top, restor floor and panel in same time, you are the man of the situation! This is the story of you and your Chevy, nothing can stop your determination. Reminds me someone.... I wanna see this car finish!
Finished welding the window channel but it looked like I took the photo with a potato. Then got started on replacing the rotten trunk gutter sections.
I got the channel made and fitted up. I practiced TIGing the two pieces together. Not bad but not good. I ran out of time getting it welded into the car.

picked up a crusty old 51 Packard bumper. It will need to be narrowed a couple inches and Neil need a lot of work but I think it looks pretty cool.
Nice work so far. I've been waiting for the custom stuff. The Packard bumper fills the bill. Care to share your vision?
Thank you. Once solid, I'd like to lightly extend the quarter panels and add 51 kaiser tail lights and pancake the hood. I am planning on chopping the top about 4" front / 5" back but will probably go less at first. Up front I'd like to french the headlights and add a 49 caddy grille but I'm not sure about that or the front bumper. Of course shaved deck, doors and hood. Not sure about spotlights but that's an option. For running gear I've got a jimmy with a mcgurk 2x1 intake and a four speed that will connect to a 57 Chevy rear end. I will most likely keep the stock suspension with dropped uprights etc. u want to keep as traditional as possible. Long way to go!
Think you are doing a hell of a job on this and from what you did so far and the plans you have for kustomizing it will be awesome.

Thanks for the kind words! Work has been crazy so I've barely done anything the past few weeks. Today I made up a bit of the rain channel on the other side of the trunk opening. Then I felt Like doing some customization rather than rust repair. I decided to section the deck lid. These Chevys certainly have a ghetto booty and I want to reduce the hump somewhat. I measured a 2.5" section and cut it out. Forgot to snap a picture of the trunk with the missing section. I also undid the flange around one of the trunk skin corners and re contoured the lip of the inner brace to improve the gap when the trunk is closed. It's an improvement but still needs some work.
