Thanks Jeff. I don't believe I've ever posted a pic of it in this thread, as the grill bar came from a 53 Olds, it's got a 56 Lincoln steering wheel, and drip rails, so it doesn't quite fit.
^^ I personally think that this style kind of went till 53 or maybe the start of 54 so to me I think that grill is alright but it isn't my thread.I doubt J.B. will mind ,also we know there were very few customs with driprails from this era.51Streamliner knows the car real well.It was a gorgeous Ayala creation.
Those caps were used on 50-53 Oldsmobiles. I ran a set on my truck, they went with the truck when I sold it. I really liked them and am considering a set for my fleetline as well. Have some deep dish '56 Caddy caps that I need to sell first.
They always call them 50 53 Olds caps but does anyone know the years when they made the slightly different variations of them? I have a set, well 10, for my car and amongst them there are 3 slightly different versions.
Haha. I think I saw a picture in the conrner of a picture of one of Gil Ayala's cars with a zebra print headliner so it must have been a trend of some sort. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
What should the exhaust sound like on these cars? What muffler did guys run in the day? Were they wisper quiet, stock exhaust, would they be loud and rap? My '47 Olds has the bigger flathead 6 from a '50 wagon swapped into it, which seems to be what the early guys did. Assuming my car was being built in '50 or '51, would my car have had a split exhaust with duals through glasspacks, or stock stuff, or? I'm still planning this build for the winter but I want it to be really right. What do you think Herb Ogden's Buick sounded like? That car is probably my fave.
Ogden had a Caddy in his car so it was probably pretty hopped up. Good question though maybe someone like Jeff will have an answer.
Wow that interior would be considered almost rat rod today. Now I wont feel wrong if I put a crocodile dash pad on my next custom Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
Around 1950, my uncle bought a '36 5W that had a full zebra interior. Pretty jazzy! That was Ray Vega's convertible sedan, built by Valley Custom. The hand-tooled leather bolsters were done by his mother!
Here is another example. Photo is from the 1952 Los Angeles Motorama. Snakeskin (vinyl) was available, as was alligator (vinyl) in every Muntz Jet, right from the manufacturer. Python pattern covers the seats of this example.
Here is the one I was thinking of lower left of the picture. Pretty wild. Sorry if this is taking your thread too far off course J.B. but at least it is keeping some custom stuff at the top of the board.
good plan...BUMP. Can share an update on the Plymouth...custom bumper... done. But I am sure you want to see other cars than mine on this thread. Enjoy the weekend.
