Man I love this car! I'm taking notes for my stalled build. Thanks for that! Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
This is priceless: And only a few years later, there was Hot Rod magazine and the National Hot Rod Association out of the same group of guys. Think the HAMB will stamp out the term "rat rod"? Thanks for sharing that, Jimmy!
Good point. Terms don't matter, what you do and how well you do it does. A lot of people around here get all worked up over the term "street rod", but I have a whole bunch of "little pages" magazines from 1958 that regularly use that phrase! Sorry for the soap box rantings...
Yes, THANKS!...this is a rare piece of history, just look at the names of hot rod legends, hard to find a more distinguished list!
Many thanks for the scanned booklet, Jimmy! So much great info for us SPORTS CAR enthusiasts... Here is my new dry lake project getting started. 1928 roadster on 1932 frame.
J.B., looks nice, let's hear some more about it! lookin' forward to read a build thread about it.. Cheers to ya, Carsten
Thanks, Jimmy! Did you know that this one is for sale in Sweden at the moment for less than 25k. Ad here (in Swedish): http://www.blocket.se/sodermanland/Hilborn_Streamliner_Hot_Rod_42249347.htm?ca=15&w=3
Assuming the "Mobil Special" is a real car, and considering a quick search yielded oil- how can I find pictures of it and information on it?
It was the first of two NOVI's built by Frank Kurtis for Lew Welch chasis #003. It was new in 1946 and ran at Indianapolis '46-'52 I think. It was modified with the enclosed canopy for Bonneville in 1947. It ran a circle course I believe and set some records there. I believe that Ralph Hepburn and Chet miller met their end in this car.
