Howdy all. Tim here…I have a question about 1938-39 Ford truck grilles. I recently purchased one and I can't get confirmation on which year mine is. I know that pics would help..but I don't have any right now..so bare with me.

At the last swap, there were two truck grilles for sale. They were different, the one I purchased has a vertical bar in the middle, but this bar down the middle is separated from the horozontal bars.

I have seen these grilles where the horozontal bars all meet at the vertical bar in the middle. In my recent searches, I have seen both grille types used on 38 and 39 Ford trucks…So I don't know which is which.

On a side note, while I purchased a grille with the vertical bar separated from the horozontal bars…I could have sworn that the other grille did not have a vertical bar at all…dv8(Jon) says he saw it…I don't remember seeing the vertical bar. Just slats that went all the way across. Is there a grill like this? One that has the same egg shape, but only has the horozontal bars?
    Thanks for any help.

The 1939 Ford grille had a vertical bar in the center with the horozontal bars attached to it.

The 1938 had a vertical bar down the center with two smaller bars on each side of it. The horozonatl bars were attached to the smaller bars.

The grille without the center vertical bar is 1938-39 Ford COE(cab-over-engine) Truck.
The 40 Ford COE returns to the vertical center bar style for the last year of the Egg-shaped grille.

I think tbe 38 truck grill is the prettier of the two . The V8 logo at the top makes it . I think Henry saw war on the horizon and made the 39,, a little plane ,,less frills .If you have an ashtray between the choke an throttle 20180825_133925.jpg 7 knobs its a 38
