I believe it was the 76 street rod nats at Tulsa, the 38 p/u and coupe is Fred Kinnery from IL. I think he ran nail head buicks in his cars. I gave him one with a Vitar Hydro all set up for a blower with the manifold that came out of a 56 T-Bird I had, that was owned and raced by John Fabela. Henry Wilko of Wilko Bros would drive the T-Bird on occasion

WILLYS 40 GASSER UNK.jpg Going back a few pages, page 133 to be exact, Flintstonecharger posted the attached photo, post # 3967. Does anyone recognize this car or know who is / was the owner of this fine forty? Anybody recognize where the photo taken? And is that Doug "Cookie" Cook walking across the lot in the background? Looks like him to me. Cool photo if is! Gary

I don't think thats Doug Cook. The year seems to be 65ish, real nice looking Willys though. I don't recognize it.

Doug would not have been dressed like that.

  7. ...here's a pic of Fred Kinnary's two 38's, he also owned a 38 tudor set up like these; all same color, wheels, etc. running nailheads. This pic is from the 79 Nat's, Fred & his wife Connie have attended every street rod nats; think he still has all 3 cars. 38willys_79nsranats.jpg

This picture was taken at the Nationals at Indy sometime in the 60s. I wish I knew whose car it was.

Something that most people may not know...Fred and Connie were the ones who originally started the Willys Reunion at the Street Rod Nationals (not sure what was the 1st year). Barb and Greg Dummer, founders of the Mid America Willys Club took it over and continued it starting with the 1989 Nats in St Paul. In addition to that Greg and Barb helped start the Willys Roundup that was held for many, many years at the Goodguys Indy event.

  10. ...I got to draw the artwork for the Willys Reunion dash plaques for a few years...
Fred's cars were black then the dark red.

After looking at several other photos, I believe you are right about Indy probably 63 -64. The vast open parking lot - pit area threw me especially with the absence of a throng of vehicles. Thanks.

Is Fred still around? He was a very nice guy. I use to run into him at the nationals and in Quincy Il color run. I owned a '41 Wilkys truck at the time and gave me an nsra division award. Always enjoyed talking to him. This was in the mid to late 90's.

  13. Yes, Fred is still kicking and yes he still has all three 1938 WILLYS. A real 2 door Sedan, and the Coupe and Pick Up as shown in the pics above. All three still run a Buick Nailhead. Just saw him at an indoor swap meet a couple weeks ago.

Here is the Nail Head I gave Fred a long time ago. He picked it up before I moved to Flagstaff.

Post #4794 and #4795, Leon Styborski, Cheektowaga, N.Y., last one to own the green 41 coupe, it was his father's. then he sold the coupe. It was a great ride for Sunday Niagara weekend, I enjoyed the coupe very much when we would have it for our ride.

A friend of mine Ken Hayn had a 56 Chevy convertible he drove on the street then became a full time E/G when he got a 38 Willys PU truck and built that. Was 65-67 time period. Ran at Dover and Westhampton in NY

Buddy of mine sent me this sedan picture, swiped off of FB. Inspiration for the smashed 39 four door I bought a little while back. I hate grinding dust!
