1937?? mystery car. What do you think she is?

I gotta say, I'm pretty smitten with the sexy front end, too. Please post side pics.

Okay, I'll bite. What was she regestered as?

 

The "mid-'30s Delahaye" idea was the first thing I thought of. It does have an early BMW look, but the badge on the grill is not correct.

 

does it have an engine,any drive train?

 

1934-35 Studebaker was going to be my guess based on the grill and front fenders.

 

Thanks. No idea at all except she spent time in Sacramento and then Lancaster before being garaged from '63 until a few weeks ago. We do have her 1963 license plate and hope to get some info from that, although records back that far aren't computerized. I hope they weren't destroyed. My co-owner asked me to take the other photos down and I did, but I'm weak and generous. I'll put 'em all back up with a few more and throw myself on his mercy. Please only comment on on the front of the vehicle and perhaps the wrath of the New Yorker will be appeased (he's a really good guy...but he IS a New Yorker :-D).

My guess would be it's a "1937 Nash" with the lights smoothed into the fenders???

We are going to restore, drive, and enjoy. Look for us in Palm Springs, the Pass, and up and down the coast. I'll be the flame-brain with tangled hair going nee-ner nee-ner nee-ner to the Bentley and Rolls drivers. Such common vehicles next to my one-of-a-kind.

having seen the added pics I stick to my guns. that's a homemade custom. but you can call it coachbuilt if it makes you feel better. The front clip, chassis and running gear may be original, but the body is fabricated and not terribly sophisitcated--although not bad either. the rear fenders may well be from the original as well. not a bad looking ride, better than the plyord.

 

Serial would be a '34 Stude President but it's one digit too short, they were seven digits long. My Willys book gives no data for serial numbers.

 

I'm pretty sure you've hit it with the willys rear, at least. The wheels will be replaced as the back are different from the front. The plan is for a total mechanical update. A search is on for a donor car.

Aaw! Thank you so much for taking the time to look. I just called my partner and there is a weld in front of the 6 numbers so the serial is probably ?707954

Thanks, guy. I don't think I called it coachbuilt (not in my vocabulary). As I said in my profile, I have no knowledge in this area, just a love for useful beauty and a desire to put this one back into service. I've always lusted for a '30's ride and this one has my name on it. I'm lucky to have great and competent people involved in the job and I appreciate your input on what I might have here.

I think it is a Studebaker. The fenders and the grill look right. Someone must have relocated the headlights into the fender. Must have been a really cool car in it's day.

 

Concur on the Studebaker assessment. Neat car with a lot of potential. Have fun with it!

 

No matter what, i think it´s quite cool!!

 

Intriguing. She does have a Trial Size Delahaye look to her. Stick around and keep us updated with the progress pics MsRedda, we'd all like to see what you make of her. Suggestion: Dark color, wide whitewalls.

If it was a Delahaye it would be twice as long, and a lot closer to the tarmac.
