This will not be an exact replica of a '36 Ford roadster, not even close, that's why I am having it done this way. Would rather have steel where wood was and will be taking "styling liberty's" that wouldn't be taken on a nice stock roadster. Still kicking around ideas but here's one or 2........

To me "Coupster" dosen't ring to well, I think Chris will give it a hole new meaning with this build ........................

  3. Those look great! I´d be doing the same thing I should think - this isn´t a restoration after all. And it´s certainly the only way I´d ever afford a 36 Roadster!

I kinda like version #2. For some reason the skirted one just doesn't have "the look". Maybe 'cause we're used to seeing skirted '36 down in the rear...

Please give us updates as the work goes on.

  8. Ditto on #2, "the look" says it all. The rake is perfect.

Chris, I can't wait to see how it turns out. I must say you do some fantastic metal work.

LOL, well, that wasn't what I intially meant, but now that you point it out...:p

What I noticed was the rounded tops where there should be a hard corner as a cabriolet would have. That just screams "I'm a coupe with the top cut off" to me. Rolling the door tops, modifying the dash as BigRats plan is, with a set of roadster posts will look MUCH better, IMHO.:D

Or, an MGB w/s frame would look nice too...;)

Today was the official main start!!! Got the cowl bolted and the doors hung. Ive started to push out the rear door posts to line up with the doors. Ill start at the front of the door and get the gap the way I like it. Then ill adjust the cowl until the rear gap matches the front.

Well after a long couple days I got the roadster all finished and got it in primer. Man that took a long time to do :)

Just kidding ya, its my buddies original roadster that I'm using for all my patterns. I tried the whole waving my wand trick to finish it, but looks like I'll have to do it the old fashion way....one step at a time.

Judging by the time between your last post and this one I figured you had an alchemist helping you out with this one! If your plans are to make something similar then I say Godspeed. From what I've seen from a few other posts praising your work, this thing should turn out sharp.

(BTW, I'm a new poster-never bothered to get a username-but I've been into Jalopy Journal and a few other sites for quite awhile and your reputation preceeds you. Good luck with the '36.):)

Subscribed and this one might be a HAMB thread vehicle that I will actually have a real chance of seeing when it's finished.

Glad you all liked that :)

So Im starting on the cowl now. Luckly enough the raised section for the windshield to lay on on the roadster is the exact same as that first raised section on the sedan cowl. All I had to do was hammer it back down. Hope that makes sense. Now I'm just making the new piece that rounds into the dash and into the doors.

Huh. Almost makes me want to redo the cowl of the Fordillac. Good idea.

I think we've got another masterpiece in the works. I can't think of anything I like to see evolve more than quality metal work.

    Two things impress me alot:
    1. It's awesome you are equally or maybe even more excited about the build as the owner. That in itself should make you both happy.
    2. How quickly you get after it. I'm sure you're probably thinking about it 24-7 but it appears your damn productive.
