im gearing up to start my '34 roadster project. Collected most of the parts but am now at the stage where I need a few visuals.

Does anybody have pics of the b-pillars? I'm interested to see what the top of the pillar looks like. How it blends into the quarters.

The car will consist of SAR roadster quarters, modified five window coupe doors, modified stock cowl with an SAR roadster cowl top.

Any pics would be a huge help.

Not the best photos but here are a few of the B-pillar post top sections.

  5. Pete: If you can look closely at the top of the quarter right behind the door opening, that strip @ 6" long, is actually a removable sheet metal cap. I discovered that detail on my own '34 years ago. It has a profile similar to some interior window moldings?????, not hard to make. I have a nephew in Florida that just built one similar to how you are approaching it. He hand made lots of pieces. He hand made the "roll" that forms the top opening on the top of the quarters. It rolls up and curves as well....think pre-bent exhaust pipe!!! He made the panel above the trunk lid as well. I'll include a pic of the finished car. Tim 063.JPG 064.JPG

    Pete,
Do you have a picture of all the parts together that you are starting with, kinda like you did with your avatar years ago?

    How about some quick measurements...

The length of the door, just below the body line... From A to B pillar

How about a measurement at the beltline on cowl or how wide is the cowl? Roadster cowl is wider than a closed car.

    Don't think it's actually wider but I know it's deeper, I think by 1-1/2"s

Pete, why don't you just call Smart? He's got all the exact measurements you need, taken from actual cars. His knowledge of the Model 40 is unmatched, as you very well know.

Here are a couple more of Richard Lacy's 34 roadster he has owned for years. His son is Dennis who is on here.
He makes complete brake systems that bolt on to the stock chassis and sells parts for Early V8's. He is a super nice guy and very knowledgeable about early Fords. His company is the Early V8 Garage.

So, just got my coupe doors home and measured them. We've got a 3-1/2" difference in length. image.jpeg

Since I'm going to use the passanger car cowl which is 1 inch shallower... I'm now at a 2-1/2"
Discrepancy. It might be nice to have a bit larger door...? Or do I take 2-1/2 inches out of the door. I'm going to mock things up, stand back and take a look....

  29. Well shit. I'm glad you're figuring all this out now Pete. It will save me some head scratching later, haha!
