    You’ve got one half of a cowl there, at least that’s what I see probably more like the vent.:)

    I have saved some pretty rough old Fords, but I would keep on walking past that one.

    Lets grab a pencil and clipboard;

    $1750 for a pretty beat and twisted roof, door jambs and cowl top. Pros; Door jambs are nice, Coupe roof is the hardest part to find.

    Add;

    • $4000; SAR (cut down) roadster quarters deck lid, above and below deck lid panels, trunk drip rail, rocker panels.
    • Macpherson sub rails
    • Floor-new or used is not going to be cheap.
    • Pr. of 4 dr sedan doors (tops need to be cut down, but you'll be chopping the coupe anyway)
    • We're already at about $8000 in sheet metal...
    • Then add dash, garnish and if it's to be full fendered, reach deep for fenders, hood, grille, repro rubber running boards.
    • couple of spools of mig wire
    If someone had a solid 4 dr sedan foundation to build on you could use this toward a Coupe conversion. Old ad, but something like this for a start would make for a great foundation taking care of the floor, cowl, etc and save a lot of fab work and parts searching;

  12. Salt is a very effective preservative for meat.

    Apparently the same process used to preserve meat does not work well on metal.

    Live and learn I guess ... live and learn :rolleyes:

  16. They used worthless beaters to have fun with.
    Just like hot rodders and drag cars guys did.
    They just had a shorter life span.
    They don’t last forever. Enjoy em.

    The big difference is, if you are a hot rodder...
    ...When you find an old 1950s hot rod or drag car it's usually a great day and an amazing/historical find.
    ...When you find an old 1950s stock car it's usually a sad day and a crappy/useless find.

    I'm a little disappointed Anthony, you almost seem pleased that someone totally ruined that coupe body...in the pursuit of fun.

  21. I guess.
    You have to look at things through the spectrum of when it was built.
    Was it a wreck? Was it junk when turned into a race car?
    Who knows.
    What if it exists now because some guy built a race car instead of allowing a scrap yard to crush it.
    What if the hot rod guys passed over it because it had a dent or speck or rust due to so many better examples being out there.
    What’s worse. A car well used and enjoyed or having no miles sitting in some guys collection doing nothing?

    If that was in my backyard I'd take a whack at it. I've got some extra '34 bits, give me a week with the hammer and dolly and some of my extra stash and I think I could start to make it look like something.

    I wouldn't say it's cheap, considering how rough it is, but it's not crazy price either.

  23. Same here.
    Hammer dolly repeat.
    After a few hours it would look much better.
    Add a beat up door and deck. Get ‘em to shut and close and call it done.

  25. Guess a guy could start with the top of the cowl and build a car around it.

    Why bother trying to make it into a perfect street car? Push it back into shape, grab a roached out frame that's too hacked up to make nice, put it on some 40's running gear, and make it back into a vintage stock car.

    Like Corn Fed says, pound the lumps out of it, patch up the holes you don't need, stick a chassis under it. Brush a coat of paint and a number on it. Presto, a vintage stock car.
    Personally, I'd add lights, and what ever was needed to make a summer cruiser out of it, and drive it until it falls apart, then repeat the process.
    It would be the cheapest 34 Ford 5 window you would ever own, can't hurt it, so just have fun.

    I've another 32 5w besides my avatar, probably equally as bad as the subject example however it's well worth the effort to trace the history as both are Nebraska Hall of fame drivers that launched Nascar & sprint car careers respectfully.
