Does anyone feel that a 1/4" by 2" steel below the subrail and on top of the frame will change the height of the body? I'm not runing fenders yet, but want it as a option. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using TJJ
Of course it will. It will lift the body up 1/4"?!?! That WILL mess you up if you end up running fenders. Even hood alignment will be affected but a simple fix for that would be raise the radiator 1/4" as well.
The brace is to tie in the two subrails together, then I will put 18 gauge on the floor. Anybody know what would be stock? Any pictures? Sent from my iPhone using TJJ
Not cheap, but probably the easiest/best looking route would be Steve's Auto Restorations floor . . . http://store.realsteel.com/floorpans.html
Looks good but not in my budget, any pictures of the bottom of the floor? Sent from my iPhone using TJJ
I used my subrails to align pretty much the whole car. The subrails set up the cowl, quarters, door sills, damn near everything. Donnie Smart made mine and they are perfect. Not that you HAVE to have a spendy set of subrails to build your highboy or fendered 34, but it sure is nice to be able to tell where everything is supposed to go. Good luck, -Abone.
Thanks for the picture's, did you weld your floor to the top of your subrails? Is their any brace on the bottom? I do have subrails now. Sent from my iPhone using TJJ
I set my subrails right on top of teh frame just like you have in your pics. That made every single bolt hole in the subrails line up with every hole in teh frame. No rubber bushings, no nutttin'. Then, I welded the floorboard to teh top of teh rails. I don't know if that is the right way, but it worked for me. Good luck, -Abone.
The rails do go on top of the floor, originally. Floor, then the subrails, then the body. I put a quarter on a 3w that came from Don Smart. Fit was great.
There really is no reason to run a 1/4" strap to connect the two subrails. The best way to connect the floor to the rails would be to drill 1/4 or 5/16 holes about every 3" and plug weld through the rails, on to the floor. Super strong.
