I know there was a thread with measurements for the original holes on the side of a 32 frame for fenders etc. But I am curious If anyone out there has a template for drilling the aftermarket frames that do not have the holes in the side of frames. I Do Not need body mounting locations. I am curious If any of you may have a template made up that I could steal? haha thanks!

If it is still there Wescott used to have frame plans on their web site

There are several 32s in Rapid City including mine you could make a template off of them.

Some day I'm going to get a long piece of sheetmetal and make myself a template of the side holes on an original '32 frame. Make sure to scratch a clear outline of the rails and center punch every single hole on the side. Then hang the thing on the wall. It would be artwork until it's ready to be used on a set of ASC rails.

But, when you (or I) are making that template, remember that most original '32 frames are bent down in the back because of the rear axle hitting the frame too hard. Might need to fudge the template up a little when laying out the rearmost holes on a straight set of rails.

I have that sheet metal template from when I used to box rails along with my boxing fixture. Like you said, made great wall art. It's now buried deep in the confines of a storage building for my kids to sell when I pass.

Someone needs to make patterns out of heavy paper or thin card board, so they can be shipped in the mail. A lot of builders could benefit from them, I have never seen any offered before. I have access to an original frame, sadly it has been too heavily modded to work...anyone?

  10. Gary,
That sounds like something I would not mind having hanging on my wall in the shop. If you ever spot it while digging around in that storage building let me know.

When it warms up I'll dig the thing out, get some butcher paper and make a pattern to help others.

I have easy access to a pair of original rails, but I believe they are sporting a few more holes than what they left the factory with.

JHRS has a set for drilling the holes (this month's SRM) as does Blackboard. I have a Dan Woods drawing from the 70's that provides all dimensions for holes on the Deuce chassis. You can, of course, purchase the rails with holes from ASC.

I had a stock chassis at my shop for installing a center cross-member, boxing , etc, I made a template of the holes on the side of the frame. I used it to drill my ASC rails for my 32. I 'll see if I dig it up and make a copy for you. I remember thinking the day I was drilling the holes , for the last 40 years I'd been welding them all up !

I have one of the chassis blueprint drawings hanging on my shop wall. What would be cool would be, if someone had access to a water jet, you could punch in the numbers off the blueprint and have exact templates made. With a CAD water jet and blueprint they would be perfect.

  18. My gosh, how was anything made perfect before CAD and water jets.

You see the drawing up there? All of those dimension are in a straight line plotting the holes on the curves of the rails. In order for those numbers to work, the curves need to be perfect first. The dimensions aren't center to center for holes.

19C. Got your message. The one I have was made with poster board. Be easy enough to transfer to a piece of 18 ga sheet metal and hang it on the wall. As I said, if I can't find it, I'll make another one using my frame.

  25. There is a Patterns thread on here that this would make a good contribution to.

Also when you're done with the template, how about sending it my way?
