I work construction and work on a lot of older houses and yesterday I came across a September 29, 1932 issue of the Boston Herald that was being used as a shim under a threshold, paper was in amazing shape for its age, Was checking out the classified and man there are some killer deals on cars. If only I could travel back with todays money and buy them all and bring them to the future
Ahhh, yes,,,there was a time,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Interesting to consider how many of those listed may still exist,,
Notice how a majority of those cars are VERY rare today. Don't see very many Marmons, Whippets, or early Willys around.
There are at least 3 cars there listed that say they have new Duco paint and they are only a couple years old. Either the original paint didn't stay looking new for long, or it was cheaper to pay someone to repaint your car rather than spend the time to polish and wax it.
I found an old paper in the wall of a house of my home, it had ads from places that were still in business today. I was going to se if they'd still honor the advertised prices.
It was the Great Depression. The unemployment rate was about 23% in 1932, rising to 25% by the mid thirties. Nobody had any money.
NEWSFLASH!!! we're still in a depression, unemployment rate is around 10%, and nobody STILL has no money...go figure?
