Great work on the floor panels man. It's a shame you're just going to cover them with betty boop floor mats...

Small update. I'm back at work after a long break so progress will be a bit slower.

I decided to use the original handbrake lever which has a broken pawl spring, so I ordered a replacement along with patch panels for the cowl.

I mostly finished the trans cover and started working on the floor where the seats will live. I'm trying to use the original seat pan since it looks better than anything I could make.

How is your heel going to rest to use the gas pedal? Will you need a heel recess in the trans cover? Love your work and attention to detail. Keep up the good work.

Right now without insulation or carpet the side of my show rests against the cover. It's actually fairly comfortable, but at the end of the day once I add ~1/2" of material I think I'll be too close to the brake pedal, and might need a recess like you're saying.

If It ends up not working the good news is that I can just unbolt it and make a different style.

Hey everybody, quick update. I welded in most of the remaining floor structure under the seat area and also cleaned up the original floor panel and welded it in place. Still some work to do but it's coming along.

Here's the truck as it sits today. The window is rolled down 4-1/2" from the top of the door. I think I like this for a chop, but I'm holding off until I get the bed set on.

That's all for now. Next big project will be the fuel tank; it's going to sit under the bed, ahead of the kick up. Thinking 16ga steel sheet.

Beautiful work! Hopefully you won't cover that great workmanship with carpet.

Thanks for the compliment. My plan is for this to replace my F100 as my daily driver, so it will be covered with insulation and carpet eventually.

It's a matched set of 6.50 x 16", came off a 41 Ford pickup. They are my "rolling around" tires. You can see in some of my pics the rear is sitting on a 1.5" thick piece of wood. It's because the 7.50 x 16" Firestones i plan on using are 3" taller overall. I'll use 6.50 x 16" Firestones up front. I'm waiting until the Portland swap meet in April to get them when Coker will be here.

Small update. I started looking seriously at my pickup bed; it's been wrapped up since last fall. It had a big piece of diamond plate tacked in (only tacked, thank goodness). It actually protected the bed more than anything.

Once I removed it you can see what looks like original wood, along with rust in the usual places.

I'm planning to take inches out to get it more in proportion with the rest of the truck, but it needs to be cleaned up first. I dropped it off at the blaster's this morning.

I also made this adapter to go from my original column drop to the 1.5" column I'm using.
    ImageUploadedByTJJ1358799836.872209.jpg

And I started on this firewall pass through.

My list of "I'll do that later" is growing so maybe one of these weekends I'll stop and do some finish welding/grinding.

    That's all for now.

Nice work Aaron! Looks like you'll be done in no time. I was thinking of going to the April swap out there. If your not done I'd be glad to lend a hand.

Thanks Josh. My goal is to drive to the Portland Transmission show this year. Should be around May 10th, so I'll be pretty close in April (had better be). Would be great to have some help.

Truck looks great! Good work on that floor pan. I'm excited to see how this turns out. Sorry if you already mentioned this but what engine, trans, and rear end are in it?

Oh right on! Ill be following this one especially when I get my pile of parts put together. That stance is killer by the way and with a chop it'll be even sweeter.

Thanks guys. Got my bed back from the blaster, not as bad as I thought. I'll take some pics tomorrow. I picked up plenty of 16ga for my fuel tank; should be enough left over to patch up the bed. I'm starting on the tank tomorrow so I'll try to post a short update.

Also ordered a whole crap load of parts; mostly small parts that aren't very glamorous like fuel pump, exhaust, wiring, battery, etc. *yawn*

May is coming up quick so it's time to get to work!

Ok so I got some work done on the fuel tank, it turned out like I pictured it so I thought I'd post a short update on how it's put together.

I'm using 16ga cold finished steel. I wanted to minimize the amount of welding, so there's just a top and bottom; only two pieces! Plus baffles.

First of all I went to my friend Jesse's house since he has a manly home-built press brake that will bend 3-foot widths.

As I may have mentioned previously, I intend to put the tank under the bed, ahead of the 6" kick up. You can see my templates in this picture; the one on the right represents the height and profile of my frame, the left one is a side profile of my tank.
    ImageUploadedByTJJ1359255284.442401.jpg

We started on the bottom first. Rolled some basic beads and bent a 90-degree and a large radius 45-degree.
    ImageUploadedByTJJ1359255359.874287.jpg
    ImageUploadedByTJJ1359255370.622584.jpg

Next we tacked in some baffles and left openings in the corners.
    ImageUploadedByTJJ1359255448.895335.jpg
    ImageUploadedByTJJ1359255471.343420.jpg

The top and sides are one piece, did some triple measuring, more beads and two bends.
    ImageUploadedByTJJ1359255588.680858.jpg
    ImageUploadedByTJJ1359255602.537033.jpg

And here's the pieces all mated together. I'm not welding them until I get my fuel sender and fill tube.
    ImageUploadedByTJJ1359255675.087643.jpg
    ImageUploadedByTJJ1359255688.565079.jpg

I got home and checked the fit. I must have been a little careless because it BARELY fits, but it's ok. Also, it's friggin HUGE, around 18.5 gallons. Should be good for a long road trip.

I'll try to post some installed pics tomorrow.

Ok so here's what the tank looks like on the frame. The bit of frame that sticks out will be combination bed mount/tank hold-down. Still need to make a little tunnel to give the driveline some space.

And some shots of my bed, rapidly becoming rusty again in this humid NW weather...

The bedsides are pretty nice, lots of repair work to do elsewhere. For now it's looking like I'll take 7" out of it instead of the usual 9". I'm thinking if I do that a 4' something could lie flat back there, seems like things come in 4' lengths, don't they?
