The Jalopy Journal
Paint detailing now being applied. Chrome should be back next week.
The nameplate has 3 bolts attached to it, protrudes through the front skin and fastened with 3 nuts on the inside.
Main colour is now going on the Flxible. GM Nassau Blue or Bright Blue in some catalogues. Looks a bit much but there are white strips and a band...
Not too hard to remove but be careful, they can crack where the main body thins out to the wings either side.
Good luck with the restoration Jeff. Would like to see some pictures of the Flxible if you have any?
Thanks Doc. Never actually seen one of these buses in the flesh so can't wait to get this back to the UK!
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated. If yours is a '46 then it will have the very rare front name plate with "Loudonville Ohio, USA" missing...
seats and overhead cabinet carcasses are in place. The couches have to be fixed properly with the arms sited correctly but it does give a good...
Ceiling board has now gone up and more of the wall structure is in place.
Interior has now had the insulation installed and the partition walls are now going up. We are using modern materials and techniques but the...
Steve, the lever on the floor is the engine kill switch, a straight mechanical shut off.
Fantastic vehicle and a lot of money spent on it but I can't get used to that raised roof look. Lovely bus and I hope the guy sells it but the...
The work on the frame Steve has ben extensive so I don't have any issues with modification (I get where you are coming from though). I'll ask them...
Work continues on the Clipper this week. Widening the walkway has proved to be a very expensive alteration (and probably why previous RV...
Not sure that I agree about the USA going down the drain (But of course I don't live there so tend to look at it through rose tinted glasses). I...
Interior metal has been treated and primed. The walkway down the centre of the bus has been widened by removing a channel on one side of the...
The Flxible is getting it's final sanding before paint. I'm glad someone else is doing the work, don't think I would have the will power!!
Fantastic, the Ansair seems to be prized more by you guys, very few find their way to the crusher unlike Flxibles in the USA. Couldn't believe...
The interior is about 90% stripped now. The restorer has found some serious rust issues around two windows but should be replaced with new metal...
Although I didn't really want to, some of the windows have been skinned over where appliances and cupboards are behind them. If the glass get...
The previous RV conversion cut a few corners so I'm having the job done right this time! This means skinning over some of the windows where...
Very cool bus Steve. Yours looks like it has the very rare "Flxible" name plate on the front. "Loudonville, Ohio USA" is missing from under the...
The shop where my bus is being restored ship 90% of the Flxibles they work on to customers in Oz and NZ. Apparently the high cost of living make...
I'm in the UK Fedman. I bought the bus unseen and I've never actually seen the bus in the flesh yet. If I pay for a flight to the USA then that's...
Hi Ben, I've taken a lot of inspiration from your project and commented a few times (Kerry Malseed). Hope you don't mind but I've also taken a few...
Steve's correct, originally a Buick but converted in the '50's to a Detroit Diesel. There are still one or two Flx's with the original 8's but not...
Bodywork was in great shape for the age of this bus. Probably down to the California desert climate:)
Found a few Bondo repairs so they have been cut out and replaced with metal:) Thankfully, I'm not doing the bodywork myself. Far too much work...
The bus is now sandblasted, stripped and is ready for the first coat of primer.
The Detroit Diesel was in pretty bad shape but was salvageable. All of the cooling system, brakes, fuel lines and almost everything else for that...
