Good start. I have a '63 Classic with a Ford 8.8, 4 link rear, and Chevy 350. Personally, I didn't think the straight six was worth the rebuild.

After a search it appears that these heads are for 1949-53 Ford/Mercury engines. Can anyone comment on the pitting? I just don't know how to gauge...
Is it normal to see some degree of pitting on the mating surface?

That's a good guide that's posted above. I would use some 1/4" foam under the vinyl. It will look much, much better than just vinyl stretched...
