Projects 3/4 ton GMC car

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by pakkrat, Apr 21, 2014.

  1. I saved this from a salvage yard crush out but I have plenty of yard art already. I will probably start parting it out. Does anyone know of any special interests in the old jitneys? I'll bet the spare tire cover is a tough one to find. It's a 1937 GMC.

Beautiful lines on that car. I bet it would make a gorgeous 2-door sedan.

    That's not a 1937, not a GMC, and certainly not 3/4 ton!

    It's a 32 Pontiac, and it isn't 3/4 ton.

The spare tire cover is a '34-'35 Chrysler product.

  7. Ahh. That's why this board is so great. There was some clues misleading me. I even seemed to make the vin kinda fit. Thanks for the info, don't know what to do now. Man these things were heavy built! Rob.

  8. So the Pontiac would have had a General Motors Truck Corporation tag number 396278? It's on the passenger firewall with original appearing pin head rivets.

Have a hamber research it more....it just might be a factory built taxi, sold under the GMC name?

    Could be Canadian taxi, etc.

    someone will know

    Possibly a Checker Cab?

That sounds reasonable to me. I don't know anything about the history of GMC taxicabs, but Pontiac and GMC shared parts in later years, so it would not surprise me if GMC borrowed bodies from Pontiac in the 30s.

Why do you think it's 3/4 ton though?

maybe because it has more than 5 lugs? Looks like a half ton truck chassis

  14. I had read some GMC history online and they called their taxi cab bodies three quarter ton cars but I can't find that page again.
