ok, so I just did a windshield visor-ectomy and now I don't know how to finish things up and am looking for HAMB'r-advice. Currently the car is covered in PPG DP60 done many years ago. So matching the color is out. So thoughts on the following.... respray in DP60 blue and try to blend respray the entire car in dp60... or hell, respracy the entire car in any color at that point do the top of the car in a different color (black, white, metal flake blue, etc. then.... - where do I stop the new color... at the roof line, at the beltline??? Damn..... who knew this would be such a project
You should spray the whole car with paint... Same color if you like... But dp is not uv resistant... Eventually it won't protect whatever is underneath it anymore then your car will be subjected to the elements... Like in the old days when people covered with laquer primer.. It's a sponge slowly rusting under the color you see... I had a dp car ;....pretty much after the water stops beading on it your protection is gone... Lasted about 3 years in CA
Love the car! I really want a tall top some day. Youre set up is just right! I like the blue. I say, paint the visor and top gloss white. Just paint the horizontal flat part of the roof white, dont bring it down the sides to the belt line. Then, paint just the belt line white. Then ad a simple white pinstripe to the cowl and turtle deck. I think that would tie in your white walls nicely.
Great car, and the new visor looks perfect. Id go gloss black, with flames. Im also thinking a full metalflake color, like blue?
Bitchin' car, and I think your visor swap was a big improvement. No way I'd break that car apart to paint it now, it's spring! I'd do the white top with white beltline as photoshopped above, and you can decide by wintertime if it really needs to be repainted.
Squablow..... I agree with you, I am not blowing this car apart. Just got it all dialed in and want use it all summer. I think I am gonna buy some Hot Rod Flatz in a blue close to the blue it is now... spend a Saturday with some sandpaper, a little bondo, my Harbor Freight paint gun combo and some good tequila at the end. Worst case.... I waste 200 bucks, have fun and learn something.
All shiny, ONE color. It's a '60's built theme, make it 'flake. Shiny. Simple restraint of adding too many fad/trends to one car. Esp a small one. The canvas becomes crowded.
Here's my rendering for my T coupe... I think if you do a two color job this is the only way to split it! Just my .02¢! Nice job on the new visor.. btw!
I agree with the white roof & white visor, enjoy the summer in that sweet ride. This summer find a friend or a HAMBer that is good with photoshop and start exploring options.
damn... now I want to paint it Orange but I think I will shoot the whole car in Hot rod flatz blue (in my driveway) or this.... maybe I just do the top black and drive her! either way, its just gets me through the summer until next winter.
