I recently came across a rebuilt & detailed '55 Chevy Blue Flame 235. Looks like it just came out of a crate. The guy had it in his '55 2dr, had it all rebuilt then decided he wanted a V8. It's been setting in his (dry) garage for 6 years. He wants it gone. He would take $200. for it (maybe less). My dilemma is, I don't need it.... but if a project came along, say an old truck or hot rod project, I'd be sitting pretty... engine wise. Yep, I realize it's a 6 banger but I think it would be cool in a traditional rod. I can afford it, but I do have other things that I SHOULD be spending the money on. Oh, what to do, what to do?
I have an old stovebolt and its a great engine. i say, for a rebuilt 235, you can't go wrong at 200 buck
Tell ya what you do. You PM me the guys contact info. I'll have my bro-in-law (who is down near you) pick it up and hold it for me until I get down there to visit next month. 200 bucks and you dont know what to do? REALLY? I went to prom with a chick like you..... ya friggin' tease.
The price is right ... there will be a use for it at some point. There is nothing like a blue flame six with a split manifold! Very cool sound!
Donzie, long time no see. If you don't want it, I'd love to grab it. Please let me know if you pass. .
Rebuilt and detailed Blue Flame 235??? Sounds to good to be true. If you were in California with the rest of us bullsh***ers - I'd say it was b.s.
Shit I'll push you off the other side of the fence and take it myself... are you really unsure what to do, or is this just an attention getter ? , Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
OK, just to be clear. I'm not a BSer or just looking for attention. I haven't dealt will 6 bangers much. Wasnt sure what the market value was now days. I know it would cost more than $200. to professionally rebuild a motor, my concern was whether to spend the money on something I didn't really need right now or make the "investment" in the hopes of finding a use for it. Thanks for all the replies, I think the answer is clearly yes make the investment. Now, if I can just stumble across a old sedan sitting in garage!!
I wish I could have found a known rebuilt 235 for 200 dollars, last summer I picked up one that is supposed to have less then 20,000 miles for 100 that looks like it might have been rebuilt and a couple months ago another 235 that I heard run that came with headers, chrome valve and side covers and a new in the box petronics kit for 200. The problem with getting parts for future projects is sometimes they can not be found and the parts just sit and collect dust for many years, both 235s were bought to replace one in my 37 p/u that has a rattle but decided to try to fix it first so the latest motor might be for a 51 3/4 ton truck that I would like to find. Just buy it and be like the rest of us that have motors stashed in the garage.
I called the guy this morning, I bought the motor plus he threw in the power glide (he said it smelt like it was hot). There.... are you all happy?!?
Glad to see you picked up the engine. Take care of it and maybe a project will come up. or it may be good to resell or trade fodder!
