Swapping 322 for a 401 nailhead

    Does anyone know whats required to put a 401 engine and transmission out of a 59 Buick into a 55?(keeping all the original torque tube setup)

    Double check my information but I think you can use the 59 bell and maybe torque converter on the 55 trans. Or you may be able to use 59 trans as they were still torque tube drive and there were updates to the trans in 56 I think.

    Yeah ok thanks, there's a 401 and auto trans for sale and I was planning to put them both in if it's not to much of a mission

    Hey Dave, I'm in aussie land also.

    were you planning on selling the 322 when you put the bigger nail in?

    the engine mount bolting pattern is different but if the new engine comes with engine mounts attached it will probably bolt up? 322 is 3 bolt triangular pattern on the block and the 364/401's are 4 bolt.

    the bell housing etc. is all different so the fact the 401 has the trans still that's good.

    Ok thanks, yeah but planning to keep the 322 anyway since it's the original engine.
