What a great and long life he had....I had the pleasure of spending time with him at Boling Green a couple years ago
Sad news indeed.....may he rest in peace.......he certainly left an impression on me with his cartoons when i was just a crazed hot rod kid.
A real icon in the hotrod world! Sorry to see him go, but glad he had such a long full life to enjoy! He left a lot for us to remember him by!
I know he lived a long life but it makes me sad to hear this news. I never knew Mr. Medley, but he was a part of my life nonetheless. Those of us who grew up with him, lost a little piece of ourselves yesterday. Rest in Peace, Mr Medley and thank you for all that you shared with us.
Lost another legend.Had lunch(at their stop in Victorville,CA) with him and the Vintage Air tour (2007)from Texas to LARS.He did one of his cartoon drawings for me which I treasure.
Had the pleasure of working with Tom at HRM and R&C and can't think of a finer person in the industry. Tom did this helmet for me.
sad news for sure...another legend moves on. My condolences to his family and friends. R.I.P Stroker, GODSPEED my friend.
Some of you have mentioned his early drawings featured in the early Hot Rod magazines. The one I remember most was in the 1948 edition of Hot Rod, when I was a sophmore in hi school, the cartoon showed "Stroker" bending over the motor & sucking "Strokers" head into the carb. The caption read: Wow! check out that vacuum reading!------Don
It was truly an honor to be around Hot Rods & Custom Stuff to document the rebuilding of Tom's '40 coupe. I'll never forget the look on his face when we (Rick Love) backed it out of the trailer at Pleasanton. I saw a 90 plus year old man transform into a 6 year old boy sighting his Christmas present under the tree. If you'd like to revisit the story of the rebuild, you can see it at www.hotrodscustomstuff.com Hit the red "Stroker's Coupe" button. Godspeed Stroker and thanks for all of the memories. We should all have such a full life. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Tom Medley was a major inspiration to my artistic efforts beginning in the '50s. I did this water color sketch of Stroker 20-25 years ago. I just made it my avatar...for a at least a while out of respect for a great man
When we think of the "grey beards" that gave birth to our great hobby, Tom was one of the giants - though he would never like to be singled out as on. A prince of a man and a mentor to me and my wife.
Denis4x4 - Your helmet is s great remembrance of a wonderful character! A special thanks to all that helped rebuild his car after the fire. He got to see it before he passed. RIP
Can add nothing to what has already been said..........we've lost another great one who was there from the beginning of this great hobby/obsession. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. Frank
Like losing an uncle you never met but only heard good things about and saw pictures of. Grew up with his writings and drawings. Hope we all can stay as active to our 94th year. RIP Tom.
Mr. Medley was fun guy to hang out with. If he hadn't done what he did in the late '60's at R&C, there wouldn't be near the rods or customs that there are today. Nor would there be the amount of old car events that there is. R.I.P. Tom
