I have a '60 El Camino and want to put a decent size (about 1") front sway bar on it. I know there are aftermarket parts available but I was wondering if anyone had adapted something from a later model car? I was thinking something like a 2nd gen Trans Am or mid 90s Caprice cop car could be a suitable donor.
Doubt you'd find anything that would be an upgrade. Sway bars are fairly cheap and old cars need bigger bars due to the different roll center heights and centers of gravity.
Take measurements of your car and then go to junkyard and see? I've done this for many of my older cars. Just make your measurements with allowable tolerance so you can check several cars at the junkyard.
I did on my 60 chevy. If I remember right it was the same bar as on a big block elcamino in 73. It is 1/1/4"
thanks for that info.........good to know cause my 59,well it kinda leans in the turns.but I forget its not a roadracer
