The purple thunderbird was repainted, but it was repainted by Watson. Roger O'Dell owns it and told me that's the only reason he hesitates to drive it a lot... it will never have another real Watson paint job!
Watson did not paint the tbird, but he was there and he did stripe it and helped do the layout for the panels. Larry told me he was not happy with how the paint came out on it. he said it got way too dark
That's exactly what I'm wondering, paint technology was pretty poor, there are surviving factory paint jobs but all those layers of lacquer had to have been quite fragile.
Danny at Corona customs did most of the paint, But Larry shot a coat, And I have pictures of him painting it. Roger
I don't know how to put pictures on the HAMB. But John is/will have the picture as one of several on display at the ventura art/car/cruise show coming up.
I sent a couple of guys pm's asking for their emails. I can email pic's. But not post or pm them, old and don't want to learn. Roger
I understand in the late fifties - early sixties he turned out 3 or 4 a day, of scallops and other custom jobs over the stock paint on late model cars. That is 750 to 1000 a year over how many years? It would be surprising if none survived.
Was he the one who painted and or flamed the kookie car Jim Street version? its still around and some here have seen it...
