Average load* None ..................... 516 pounds WD-40 .................. 238 pounds PB Blaster ............. 214 pounds Liquid Wrench ..... 127 pounds Kano Kroil ............ 106 pounds ATF-Acetone mix....53 pounds *The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50% acetone - 50% automatic transmission fluid.* *Note the "home brew" was better than any commercial product in this one particular test. Our local machinist group mixed up a batch and we all now use it with equally good results. Note also that "Liquid Wrench" is about as good as "Kroil" for about 20% of the price. *

That test has been discussed to death. I don't recall why any longer but there are plenty of reasons it is not a very scientific test. But the main drawbacks of the home brew are....Acetone is way more flammable than any of the commercially available penetrating oils, and it is way more likely to evaporate. It also doesn't come in an aerosol can which is usually 50% of the game. I guess I never was much of a Hints from Heloise guy. Anyway, I have to go soak my ass in a mixture of honey, linseed oil, and salt so it will stay looking young.
I buy wd 40 by the gallon and put it in a spray bottle same as kroil. I've mixed the atf and acetone and found it to work pretty good but as said earlier the acetone evaporates not as bad as in cold weather.

I have used "Rusty" by Kent Automotive for the last dozen years or so. Works really well on very rusted nuts on "field cars." Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Mouse Milk is a real product. It was developed for the aviation industry for freeing up fasteners on airplane engines. Used it on a frozen heat riser that was rusted tight. Took about 3 days it was as good as new.

Agreed, at work we have tried virtually every brand of penetrating oil on rusted up oxygen sensors , nothing worked better than brake fluid.
I'm sure they have never tested it but I use water more times than not to break loose rusted stuff. Water's what made and water's what dissolves it. If you don't believe me, leave a pair of pliers out in the rain for a few weeks until they don't move anymore. Throw them in the sink for an hour and see how quickly they loosen up. After they loosen up, hit them with a little heat to dry it out and spray on a little lube for protection.
Penetrating oil does nothing on rust. It makes you feel better and try harder to loosen the fastener. You spray the fuck out of the bolt/nut with any of them.......Then if the bolt come loose you notice the threads are dry.....So much for penetrating...
Did not have Acetone so I did a 50/50 mix with lacquer thinner and Tranny fluid. Been doing this for a couple of years now and it works very well. My friends at the shop like it and gave it the name "Rusty Ray". CRC has a product called Freeze-Off. I have a can but have not had an opportunity to give it a real test.
Wrong, wrong, wrong. If it sits for a while, the ATF settles to the bottom, but a couple shakes, and away you go. Been using this combo for years, and been real happy with the results.
I used acetone on cleaning the inside of a gas tank .. cleaned it up real nice .. but the smell will kill you, it is really strong stuff and it eats up rubber gloves like mad. I used pinesol already on soaking carburetors .. it cleaned up EVERYTHING squeaky clean, even rust . Also if you spray up bolts with penetrating oils like wd-40 or blaster , it all evapoates within a day or two. so you have to crack that bolt or nut loose within a short period of time .
Got some Justice Brothers JB 80 in a spray can it works great and it is made in California.I like to buy American when I can.
bees wax is the bees knees when it comes to rusted nuts, plus smells real nice when ya put some heat on it.
