Just got a tranny adapter from a supplier. When I opened the box I noticed the one drilled and tapped hole is awfully close to the edge. Thoughts?

That does not look right to me. Not at all. You should have the width of the hole to the edge as a general rule as I understand it. I wouldn't run that, I'd be on the phone with the supplier.

Exactly, at least 1 hole diameter from the edge to the center of the hole, better to be 1.5 or 2 hole diameters in cast aluminum. The supplier probably just had it mounted crooked in the machining fixture. Send it back and ask for a new one.

yeah, quality control is now in the hands of the consumer. sad, but true.

  7. If it was a single hole holding something to a chunk of aluminum I'd be concerned but seeing that it has 4 tapped holes and the transmission registers in the center I would move on. Let the seller know in case it creates a problem later.

I would, however, slip a trans on there and make sure everything lines up.

I suppose you could see whether your tranny mount holes line up with all the holes on the adapter -- my guess is it won't.
In any case I would return it.

Excellent advice, better to be inconvenienced by waiting for your replacement than to be inconvenienced when you're in your coveralls, under the car with the tranny out and then find out it doesn't fit (after several attempts).

Thanks Guys......that's my opinion to. It's going BACK. Hopefully there's no hassle about shipping cost

  15. I think before I sent it back I would talk to the supplier. I would also check to see if there is a reason that it needs to be that close to the edge, as in something doesn't allow it to have a larger ear there.

Does it bolt up to the transmission?

Yeah, id send it back, if they tell you its good, then find another supplier, theres no strength for that thread. If its not refundable, then maybe thread a brass bolt in there and have a good welder build up the outside, run a roll-tap into it to reform the thread, then check the faces for flatness.

the metric system? never heard of it.......

Tranny not here yet. It's on its way (T5)

  28. Before everyone gets too excited, how deep is the hole? And is it actually in the right place?

If the location is correct, can the hole be drilled/tapped deeper? If I could get 2 to 3" of thread engagement (or more) I don't think I'd be all that worried.
