After reading HotRodChassis's post on a Reliabilty Run, I began to think of all the poker runs I used to attend when I had my Harleys. Now due too health reasons I'm doing the traditional rod thing and I can't think of one poker run for cars. Why is that??? I'd love to see a poker run/reliabilty run thing happen. Although I did attend Billetproof and Goodguys this year and a whole slew of local events and had a good time, but what gives?

I'd run in one if they were around. I've heard of it done but I've never had the opportunity to be in one. Better start planning.

Bikers are always trying to do charity things, trying to win over public favor. Custom car guys don't have a bad reputation, no need to prove anything. Plus, you ever try to keep 200 cars together? in one parking lot?

The Jackson rod run and the West Yellowstone rod run both have poker runs. Some years for the Jackson one you need to gas the car before you go. I think it was 78 miles one year. Gives you a chance to get out on the road and get some bugs in the grill between the morning parade and the afternoon car show.

The West Yellowstone run, some do the poker run and others just head into the park for a few hours to practice dodging buffalo and tourists.

The Car-D-Lane in north Idaho doesn't have a poker run but they do have part of the town closed off to normal traffic so the rods can do their American Graffitti style cruisin on Friday night. With 600+ cars cruisin and 20 thousand people watching it gets a bit congested so make sure your cooling system is up to it.

Here's a shot from the first stop at a Jackson gas station a couple years ago.
If the first card is at a gas station, take the hint and fill up if it's an EIEIO poker run.

We do one every month starting in April through September.

We have about 100-150 cars and if you come to the SW nats in OKC, we have one in conjunction with that Sat night.

Email or pm me if you wanna help get one going. We have been doing it for 8 years now. Very successfully as well.

Ask Dragrcr50 and Flat-Top......they have attended.

  9. We prefer canasta.... (more traditional)

The big problem with a poker run is no one wants to work the stops...and if done correctly, you need four stops after the initial start(total of 6 people or 12 if you do games at each stop). The Un-club here in Denver used to do one to Central City (ColoRODo's gambling mecca), it was about a 35 mile one way trip and ended up in Central City. Used to give away $500.00 cash and Central City always donated stuff...good stuff! And we always had TWO Routes, they criss-crossed each other and always confused the poker runner...why's he going that way and we're going this way? Let's follow him!!!

Did that for three years before it got to the point we couldn't get any workers...everyone wanted to participate and go after the cash!!! We ended the event and everyone complained...but hit up with the "why didn't you help?" We always got the same answer...so, no more.

Poker runs are fun...if you can get the workers!

There are two I never miss in our area. The Old Timers have one every year in Port Angeles, lots of fun. The best is the Swindlers(world famous) at least a hundred miles after you get there. Not hard to orginize, don't need people manning the stops because all the members are driving. A whole lot more fun than any car show. I'd rather drive somewhere. After all it is a car, right?

  12. Our chapter of a bike organization only had a few members, so we were able to participate by sending out the first stop's people early, and as soon as the last participant left the first stop, the first stop workers went on to the second stop and went with the crowd as usual. they just grabbed 2 cards at the second stop for every hand they were playing. The people that worked the next stop were the first to leave the previous one, and grabbed two cards before they left. and so on and so forth.

The people working the last stop were a few minutes late for the party, but we bought them a round and everybody was happy.

The Charlotte GG show has one and the stops are at the NASCAR shops. I've done it a number of times and always had a great time. Different shops every year.

The Cruisen the Coast show in Bilioix, MS has one that stops at the casinos. Also had a nice time doing that one.

The NSRA Kzoo has one I believe but I've never done it. Always seems like I've got something else planned during the time they run it.

NSRA Burlington, VT show has a really great one. Runs thru the Blue Mountains.

    The list goes on........:D

We do a poker run every year up here in Canada. I know what you guys mean about havin trouble finding people to work stops tho i think my problem is lazy people. We dont do it for any cash prize, just a lil creative home built trophy and then we finish it with a sho and shine at a beach. It has been a success and growing every year here.

The local car club (Ramblin Relics) has a car show the last Sunday in June every year. They have a tour through Amish country and a Poker run then a chicken supper the night before. Pre-registration is $15.00 and that includes the supper and car show the next day as well as a t-shirt. The town is West Union, OH and it is about 20 miles north of the Ohio River.

Our Model A club used to do one every year and they didn't need anyone to run each station. They just hid a bag of cards on the side of the road. Sometimes the old timers would get a bit tricky and hide the bag real good for the next car. Man, those things were a blast.

We're a diverse group out here. Figure car people are car people weather they drive a Model A or a Hemi Cuda. I know lots of guys who have both types. Only people who ever give me any shit about the Chevelle are HAMBers. Big Olds and Bob K's ragtop are probably the only cars that get more miles on them every year than that Chevelle. I could have been like the guys in the 50's who worked on 5 year old customs and 10 to 20 year old rods but I didn't want a hopped up Accord or Cavalier. The Chevelle's pushing 35 now and gettin down the road fine for a car built out of 2 rusty wrecked junkers. When I get this A coupe finished I hope it gets down the road 1/2 as good as that Chevelle has done. If so, maybe I'll bring the Chevelle to the HAMB drags and let them torch it like was threatened. Then again, maybe I'll just let them kiss my ass. :D

And that dash duck is an old war buddy. He rides with me for free as long as he wants...:D

Curious Smokin' Joe...why did you think anyone was giving you shit about your Chevelle? I sure as hell didn't read it that way!

Chevelles are kool...whether they're from 1964 or the seventies...and most "car people are car people," we like anything that anyone takes time to build and drive the shit out of.

Sorry, but poker runs just kinda seem more for the 'lawnchair and crying baby' crowd.
    :(
What the hell is a poker run anyway?

I've been on several poker runs with my old club. I haven't been on one in a while though, but they were fun.

You have an opinion on something you don't even know what it is?

Not trying to be hateful....just kind of ironic.

I've been on about a dozen or so in the last 3 years. All were with bike poker runs. Truth is around here no one with a old car wants to drive it very far. They would rather sit is a parking lot in the hot sun and tell the local folks how much money they got rapped up in there machine!! It is kinda cool having 30 Harleys follow a 1927 Ford roadster down the road!!! Most the bike guys think it's pretty cool that a hot rod wants to ride along.
