Since in Oklahoma you can register old plates on your cars, I always look for plates of the year on the car. Then I check with the DMV to make sure that the number isn't already used. So, I am searching the internet for 55 plates for my recently traded for 55 Pontiac 2dr HT. I run across a plate on evilbay and the # is 32-1955 so I think that would be a pretty cool number for the car. He has it with a starting bid of $75 and no Buy it now. I contact him and since I am really wanting the plate I ask if he would consider ending it early and would give me a price. Well a couple of days go buy and no answer, there is still no bids on the plate. Finally on the last day of the auction he messages me saying he would rather let it run its coarse not realizing that I would have given a BUNCH more if he would have ended it early for me. So in the last few minutes of the auction I bid like $127.01 and hope no one out bids me cause I REALLY want it. Well no one else bids on the plate and i get it for $75. I am very happy. By the time I get it I have already registered to the 55 Pontiac. A week or two later I am admiring my cool find and realize I had traded my 32 for the 1955 Pontiac and the whole number then fit into place I feel pretty stupid for not noticing this before Now its restored, kinda

No one bid $75 on a 1955 plate with numbers 1955…….Amazing! Great score, It will look sweet on that Poncho. Even color coordinated!
I had a NH plate reading 57 RAT, for my 1957 Chevy with a 396. 5 years later while while helping a friend getting parts out of the junkyard in Newmarket, NH, I saw the same plate/same year on a 57 in that junkyard.
Seems to me, you ought to have a piss yellah 32 Ford and a 55 Chevy field car with plates like that . . .
My dad had a '30 Packard with antique Pennsylvania plates that read "DU-32"- told him to sell the plates separate from the the car when the time came, but he didn't think he'd get anything for them...
Awesome story. My dad got me into license plates. He had a 1959 VW and now we got like 10 1959 plates in our collection. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
