So I'm putting together a 59a style flathead for a friend. .030, turned crank yada yada yada. Went to drop the rods on the crank and they don't fit. I'm pretty sure the rods he supplied are Babbitt rods with no Babbitt. Nobody makes aftermarket rods for the full floating, only the staked bearing 8ba style. Has the 2.139 rod journal.

    What do I do?

shouldnt be babbit rods, they do take a bearing but the bearing is one shell for both rods on the journal.....

    Don't use 8ba rods on a 59a crank.

Wait before you do something stupid. First look on the side of the rod beam, there should be a marking in the beam-- a number and letter, What is it? This will determine the rods you have and necessary before you take any other steps.
