The other day, I hopped into my 27 T touring cab with a Ford COE/Truck steering wheel. As I suspected, it takes up darn near half the cab. If I'm going to use it, I'm going to have to shrink it.

Since the HAMB is full of opinions and experience, I searched and didn't find a 26/27 T specific thread on the subject, so I'm going to ask here.

I'm wondering what folks are running for steering wheel sizes and how they like their setup. Pictures would be great too!

I considered it, but decided I like the look of later wheels better. I really like the look of the truck wheel I've got (which looks like this):

I used a 15" four spoke wheel on my avatar ('26 t ) . In fact, I use them on all my '32 roadsters. I think they say traditional and never go out of style.

Do you have any pictures of your setup?

Does the 15" fit and drive well in your T?

I'm planning on cowl steer as well, I'd be very curious to see how you set yours up.

Thanks. I've looked at them and seen them in plenty of 30-32's but i'm drawing a blank on 26/27 cockpits and how the wheels relate to the cab as far as size.

Not using it on a T ... so not sure if there's great value in my experience ... but I put cowl steering (based on a `32 steering box) on my `28 roadster. And then I cut down a banjo wheel to 15" to improve driver ergonomics. But the steering is stiff at stop and low speed, and I think a part of the problem is I gave up some leverage with the smaller wheel. There's a reason why old cars had big steering wheels, and it ain't for the aesthetics! I'd recommend "testing" before you commit to a final design.

This is my 27 t, sorry I do not have it here to measure, But you can see it is about the size of the roadster door. It works great! Gary:D

That thing is huge! I guess that's why it folds away then.

I forgot to mention that I measured that 50's Ford Truck wheel and it came to 18" which is too big for me in that little cab as a 2 seater. If I was going to narrow the body and do a single seat modified, I could probably accommodate it but that's not the plan.

    Keep the pics coming!

  12. 1920-mid 25 wheels were 16" diameter
    26-27 wheels - 17" diameter

    I'll be running a '37 Banjo in mine (17")

Thanks for the info! Having sat in my cab with the 18" I can see a 17" working. That single inch would seem to be the difference in cutting it too close to the door, at least the way I think I'm going to want to sit in the car.
