So far my 54 Chevy has a new motor, trans, drive line, wiring, and so on.

I am now considering if I should chop the top or leave it as is, and just finish some body work, paint, interior, etc.

I'd like to hear other people's opinions, thoughts, etc.

Chop it and change the backglass to a 49-52 chevy sedan

  6. I could drive that just the way it is.
No doubt a chop would be cooler though. The problem with chops is all the details to finish them off. It probably 10x the amount of work in the details as there's in the chopping. Lots of guys just don't finish them and that's a pretty sketchy appearance.

So if I had to pick
    1. Finished chop
    2 as is
    3-3000 something in between
    3001 unfinished chop.
    . Unfinished chop.

I forgot to add...if I don't chop it, I'll probably paint the entire car gloss black and throw on some chrome O.E. steel wheels and chrome spider caps.

I think if the top was the same color as the gray in the flames it would look great. That is a lot of work or money to chop it the right way.

  10. Oh it's gonna need a chop looking like that

Leave the top as-is...and put some springs back under it.

    Ah no chop chop.

  24. Lets face it,,chopping a mid 50's car,Ford or Chevy is a difficult job.

There is a guy not 5 miles from my home that got in over his head with a shoe box Ford and after he screwed it up so bad it sat for many years he sold it to a guy that was really good at slicing cars,,he told me the chop was so bad he had to buy another car to replace the top and part of the body.

If you are brave and have some help go for it,,if not and you still want it chopped think about hiring it out.JMHO. HRP

Cherry out the body first.....then if you still are motivated, chop it.

They look fantastic either way. My vote says chop it. Just don't go overboard and wreck the proportions. The idea is to improve the looks.
