hey guys, I am starting my 40 Merc and there is a 47 Ford front end under it, but not attached anywhere.. I have been told it will work, but do not know... not stock, will be front end on the ground, custom.. thanks
You shouldn't.. You want the wheels centered in the fenders looking from the front.. A 1940 Merc deserves that...
perhaps a 35-40 ford would work which would be great cause they are the easiest and cheapest to find.
good thoughts guys, I will change it and get the 35-40... anyone have one for sale..? thanks again, Lloyd
46-48 ford car axle 50 3/4" kingpin c to c 41 " spring perch c to c 37-41 ford car axle 48 1/2" kingpin c to c 38 1/2 spring perch c to c If you get your axle dropped 2" to a total drop of 4" you would have the same wheel base as stock if they didn't stretch the axle or 48 3/4 roughly. You would need to check with someone who does dropped axles to see if there would be any turning problems hitting the wishbones due to the longer spring perch length. As you can see, you would have to change out the whole axle setup not just the axle.
Lloyd does Brian have a axle in Carsons Merc that you can measure. Remember a merc is longer and wider than a ford. 41-48 ford might be the same as a 40 Merc.
