Holy Shit!!!!! Kev,help me out here:I saw that Willys pickup in Hot Rod magazine when I was about 9 yrs old and I've been looking for it ever since! Is that the same one with the 427 Ford running a 6-71...? That truck is SO DAMN PERFECT! Scott Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I almost forgot I had these in a back corner of the shop. The other side is back there somewhere. They were a pretty trick setup in their day. Chrome plated, spring loaded, adjustable (with pit pins). Probably from the late 60's. Looks like I missed the era a little, maybe early to mid 70's. I stole this pic from Rick Finch.
Kev, You're killin' me here......Ive been unable to locate that old issue of Hot Rod,and I would love to get a refresher on this one.If I recall correctly it was running in the middle 10's with the blown 427 Ford..? Love to know who built it,and if possible, where it is now. Scott Posted using two Dixie cups and a medium length piece of string.
I can't seem to work the search function any more but if you go to my profile and look in the "threads started by"..." you will find a thread titled "Bought me a Willys PU Gasser, back in the 80's" In that thread you will find scans of magazine features of the blue truck. ( that's not the one I bought)
I've been head over heels in lust with that truck since I was a kid. So damn fiiiiiiiine.....! Scott Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
That isn't the red T Bird that appeared in the Hot Rod magazine Street Racing issue in the early eighties,is it? Scott Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
After Jimmy King flipped his Top Fuel car over backwards at Indy 1970 his crew installed a simple caster wheel to the top of the roll bar, One of the members coined the fraze "SIMPLE STUPID" but I think that was used years earlier. That shot at Indy was used in Hot Rod this past Summer. If you look at the pics you can see the caster
Not quit in keeping with the letter of the law. "Vintage wheelie bar photos" so if inapropriate feel free to remove. Pat
I would jack the front of the car til the bars contact the ground and are loaded, then see if the front end height is acceptable to you. If its seems like its higher than you're comfortable with, lower the jack, adjust the bars to contact sooner, and try hacking the car again to check the front end height when it's up on the bars. It may take a few tries to get it where you feel comfortable, but it should get you close til you can track test it and confirm your settings. I'd be real careful to get them set very evenly though....you don't want it turning left or right with the fronts in the air.
