Well, some of you were not a fan of 'Short and Sweet', so I'm giving you a tasteful custom from an article titled "Long 'n Low" to counter that last little hot rod. As an added bonus, it's a '41 Mercury coupe, which in my opinion, there were far too ...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
I love it!But if you're into short,I just got a new plasma cutter and I had this idea for turning a Poncho into a Smart Car.....
Now THAT is a beautiful custom. I came across this shot of it (via Kustomrama, via Rikster)... not to derail this thread, but anyone know the story on the car in the background? Crazy...
I absolutely love this car....the reason behind hunting and finding my 41 Merc short door. It was a difficult find, but not as difficult as finding the rear quarter trim. Here's a shot of mine....it will be modeled after this car.....watch for a build thread soon, going to start stripping the paint off in a couple of weeks!
Jive-Bomber... Thanks for this ! '41 Mercs always cool...but fewer were made than Fords, so not only do they make great customs...they're rarer to begin with. Jonnie www.legends.thewwbc.net
Does the front sheet metal marry-up to a '41 Ford? Without seeing them side-by-side, they look almost identical, other than the obvious grille.
Front sheet metal on the Mercury is three inches longer from the cowl forward. The wheel opening on the Mercury is three inches further from the cowl to work with the three inch longer wheel base. So no, the front sheet metal do not interchange.
Thanks Rik. Yeah, the length and "lean" of the front end is more evident from the side profile... (Kustombuick photo, from http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=283894 )
Those 3 inches really help the proportions. I like this one. 41-48 Fords aren't easy to make smooth customs out of, but there are some out there that really nailed it, and this is one.
