GASSER MUST HAVES and cant haves?

    There's a nice gasser project on the local cl. Lots of good stuff, 4 pot injection on a blower, nice paint, nice wheels, but the stance is total 4x4! I emailed him and said I liked the car but no gasser ever went down a track looking like that. (polite as I could) He told me that's how he remembers them. He already built and sold one like it. I musta missed something.

    No you did not miss a thing, as I hate those jacked up gassers too plus being very un-safe they are UGLY and not in the spirit of the gasser cars from when I raced

  3. I just want to say that I just got my Speedway straight axle kit and the combined shipping weight was 152.8 lbs. That is all........

    2" 1/4" wall axle....is anyone making a lighter one? and how about some monoleaf springs?

    From what I found out on mine; the Speedway is thicker than their advertised 1/4" wall. I had to narrow mine in my Austin, and was surprised when I cut the tube and it measured well over 1/4" wall thickness.
    Unless they've changed in the last few years since I got mine.

    Mark Williams still makes them. Chromemoly and I think .188 wall. Don't hold me to the wall thickness though.

  8. Does Speedway make an axle narrow enough to fit under an Anglia? I'm not looking to make it nose high, more of a late 60's early 70's look.

    We used a Speedway axle kit under this one, BTW it is on the cover of Street Rodder this month. It was built in the spirit of the mid 60's, with some modern touches like front disc brakes, and an 8.50 cert cage, and street legal as well.

  11. It says custom length axles to order in their advertisement, but only ford/chevy king pin size.

    Not that I know of. I ordered the narrowest axle they had and then cut it down to fit my Austin A10. Same similar size as your Anglia. I cut mine down to around 39" kingpin to kingpin.
    Edit-I see they do now offer custom widths.

    That's what I was thinking. One of their 3" drop/40" king pin center axles looks like it will be real close to what I need for my Anglia.

    My next axle will be chrome-moly. I'll have Tinny's Hot Rod Shop make my next one. I spoke with him when I was doing my 55, but I needed a dropped axle and he only does straight axles.

  15. Yeah, 38 to 40" looks to be about right. So, what spindles can be used on these? I don't care if it's 5x4-1/2 or 5x 4-3/4 at this point.

    That's the right length for an Anglia axle if you use the Anglia style spindles. If you use Ford spindles, the axle needs to be quite a bit narrower.

    I prefer Ford spindles over Chevy spindles. Better choice of steering arms, etc. Most hubs can be ordered with any bolt circle you want (or if using early hubs, can be re-drilled to the desired pattern).

    I went with Ford spindles, but Chevy bolt pattern. They will add 8" to the wheel to wheel width.

    What was your reason for going with the Chevy bolt pattern?Im guessing it was either the rotors you wanted to use,or you had a nice set of slots already in a Chevy bolt pattern...?

    Several reasons. I had a Pontiac axle already narrowed for my Austin, and it was 5x4.75" pattern, plus a pair of ET slots for the car that were also Chevy pattern, plus tons of Chevy pattern wheels, etc. around.
    Went 5x4.5 on the Falcon all around, because of the Explorer 8.8 rear, and the Econoline 5x4.5 straight axle. I try to keep life simple.

    I'm currently building an Anglia. I'm using early Ford spindles with Wilwood brakes. Ill go out and measure all of it for you. I built my own axle it's pretty narrow, don't remember the actual dimension.

    My front clip measures 54 1/2" wide. My wheel/hub/spindle assy. measures 8 1/2" from the outside of the tire to the king pin CL. I made my axle 37" wide. Total overall width is 54".I'm using Wilwood brakes and American Rebel 4" front wheels.
     
  29. Speedway has a 54 inch hub to hub axle kit, I ordered the 56 1/2 for my Henry j, it's a 48 inch king pin measurement. Which is the same as my t-bucket 4 inch drop tube, outside tread width on that with 5.60 tires is 60 inches. I measured my J and with it's skinny tires it also had a 60 inch tread width.
