In the latest Speedway catalog Clay Smith has 1/2, 3/4, & full race cams for SBC. Burn rubber down memory lane it says.
I must have just put a one and a quarter cam in my 351C its a Crower Power Beast ! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Could probably stem from the fact that performance camshafts were ground, or rather reground, on a factory camshaft to save cost of a new camshaft blank. When you do this you have to reduce the base circle to obtain lift. There just isn't enough material here to obtain "race" lift but enough to get a fraction of it or "3/4 race" lift. Just the way I see it after grinding stock camshafts into higher performance camshafts. Regards
Yes but what is full race? What style of racing was the full race for,ie:hill climb, drag or roundy track etc. JW
You guys are putting away too much thought into this. A 3/4 cam was just a catch term for a street cam that was not too wild a grind. The "real" motorheads seldom used the term anyway.
full race is just that. Any cam ground for all out, no holds barred racing be it drag, LSR, road racing ect ect. Today we say "so much lift and so much duration" so the term 3/4 race is no longer a true discriptive term. We buy cams from a catalog with specifications and usually a RPM range of power both HP and torque. They are usually ground on a new blank for the power range we think we will spend most of our time in. R Pope is right, we are putting way too much thought into this
