Falcon windshield trim. Do I need it?

I have a '60 Falcon I am working on and I'm ready to put the windshield back in. It has the stainless trim that fits into a groove but I have removed all of the chrome from the car and would like to not use this trim. Does it have a function other than looks? I don't want to paint it black. Thanks

 

I ran without it on my '61 for about 8 out of the 9 years I owned the car. Never had a problem.

 

you really dont need it, it is just for looks i removed mine and it was like that for 5 years with no problems i think you can also buy the seal with out the trim groove in it also
