Projects 56 chevy truck "4"

    got a question, I have a 56 2nd series chevy truck I'm hot rodding and after removing the 50+ years of paint and grime, I find a number stamped into the lip the hood rests on against the firewall. What's the purpose of this number? Mine is a 4.

    Theres lots of numbers stamped around the body and chasis, I have found several, I wrote them off as some sort of part number

    Thanks, I didn't figure it was much but was told it was some way of record keeping when they came down the assembly line. Thanks again!

    Yep, most likely the mark of the person who did a certain job or the mark of the inspector who inspected that job.

    Just a heads up,You only need to add "2nd series" to your discription if its a 55 thats the body style like yours.
    1st series 55s were basicly the same body style back to 47 "AD"(advanced design), 2nd series 55s were like your 56.

    As already said it was for the assembly line. Just marking off a inspection. I worked for a company that over restored cars. They would look for these numbers to replicate a factory fresh car of its time.
