I have a 62' fairlane with a 6 cyl (170) and I'd like to now which motor mounts I need to make it work and if I need to modify the shock towers in order to make room for headers. Thanks

I THINK you should be able to use the v-8 parts from a 63-65 falcon and/or early mustang. everything is available aftermarket from falcon providers--I THINK the engine compartment stuff is the same. you might want to call one of the many falcon suppliers and ask them i the stuff crosses over, though.

Make your own and trans mount also it's not hard but build your sub frame connectors before the trans mounts and don't forget them torque boxes

There's no reason to modify the shock towers if you get the right headers. I put a set of '65 Mustang long tubes in my '63 Falcon with no problem. I hear the tri-Y headers give you even more space.

I don't know Fairlanes, but I think you're better off shopping for headers than modifying the towers.

There are plenty of headers made for the early V-8 Fairlane, you DO NOT need to modify the shock towers.I believe the frame mount part is V-8 specific for the early Fairlanes [62,63,64,65],but I believe the engine mount is the same as Comet,Falcon,Mustang.A 260,289,302 and even a 351W will fit without modified shock towers! I'm running TRI-Y headers on my 60 model I don't think they would work with the towers in place but a 60 has a smaller engine bay so I'm told

  9. The 351W will fit, but it's tight squeeze....

I have the 302 from a mustang gt already. A 351 would be nice anyway. I was asking about the shock towers because I have mustang headers (freebies) sitting in my garage

Maybe I'm just looking for excuses to fit a big block later... "Well now we have room..."

62-65 Fairlanes are different from the rest of the Fords. Its best to find the engine mounts and double hump trans crossmember from another 62-65 Fairlane. Spend ~$35 and join the Fairlane Club of America. Great technical support there and some parts classifieds. If your a member the past tech articles are available online - and they are extensive.

Doug's and Hooker (part # 6134 ) make headers that fit

The only thing I would add is that when I swapped a 289 (later version probably like the 302) for the original 260 I had to modify the stock V8 mounts by adding a short piece of strap iron to extend the motor mounts as the mounting points on the later V8 were about an inch or so wider. I did this in about 1970 but I feel pretty confident that my memory held on that task:)
