Can anyone tell me the wheel base of the Scrounger 23T p/u. I know it's super short. I'm going to guess 90 to 95 inches?? This is a Rod Hynes photo I found not mine.
90 to 95 is in the ball park for an early fuel altered. Bruce McDowel's first Bad News Fiat was only 86" in the late 50's/early 60's. Talk about a hand full!!
I'm guessing at 90-95 inches with a hemi on fuel it was crazy. It sure looks like under 100 inches to me.
The Anglias were a sort of struggle in the early '60's, and I think the racers actually forced the change! At the time, the AA gassers were the biggest crowd draw, and some of the leaders of the pack just showed up with Anglias. Tossing them out would have been about as smart as telling the Beatles to get off the stage because their hair was out of spec...
I'm in the process of collecting parts (all I have are a set of rear wheels and a throttle pedal). To build a similar type car, like the Scrounger or The Trip. My idea is a 96 inch CM funny car style chassis with a 23 t pick up body with a cast iron BBF. Long term deal
I'd love to see a photo of the Scrounger or the Trip with out the body. I'm interested in how the chassis was set up.
The T bucket body really give the back end the bobbed short look , We modified a speedway t bucket body and pick up bed for our nostalgia altered, we wanted something different from the standaed turtlle deck back to the 23 t altereds, I had never seen the Scrounger before , very neat!!
I was kicking the idea around of building a square tube chassis, but I'm going with the shortened fc tube chassis.
Maybe not, but looks cool as hell. I'm scrounging around for a cheap 23t body and pick up bed or anything else I can find on the cheap. Happy Veteran's day guys.
The new National Dragster has a centerspread on that Groundshaker car-----where's the Fuel tank in that thing?
Still trying to figure out if I want to mount the axle on a left spring or solidly to the chassis. I'm leaning toward the leaf spring deal.
