Drag racer from the 60's and 70's....Hot rodder since turning 16.... Former Fuel Drag racing car owner/driver/builder Engine builder, corvette restorer, mustang restorer, street rod builder/owner and former owner of a few classics like 69 Z/28, Rare 64 GTO, 72 and 73 Elkhart Green(only two years for the color) Vettes and current owner of 78 Pace Car, 65 and 66 mustang and 23 T-bucket. Retired but still put in at least 12 hours a day on Hot Rods and other hobbies. My toy list is way too long to elaborate on.
The 69 Z28, it's interesting that you owned one. I had a buddy that ordered a Z28 with an optional 2x4 intake. As I remember it came bolted down in the trunk because GM did not want to be involved in the ugly (racing) thing. By the way we found that the single 4 ran better than the 2x4. Welcome.
Both the 2x4 intake and headers came in the trunk. And your buddy was correct, they ran better with the single 800. It was a screamer. It turned over 130 in third at Indy on the road course when the shifter locked up....ended up bending the water pump shaft....what a ride.....vibration was tremendous! Wish I had the car I traded in for the Z...a 1964 GTO 4spd with FACTORY AIR...... according to Jim Wangers.....a very very RARE car that today would be worth a fortune.
