I was digging in my gasket set for 331 Hemi 1955. I found a round felt piece that is about 3 1/2 inches in dia. with a hole about the size of a cramlshaft bearing. I hope I don't have to tear the engine down. Anybody have any ideas?

It goes in the front hub. It is a dust shield for the front seal.

all the hemi gurus must be hanging out in the other "traditional" forums. you might want to ask your question there also.

Andy is correct & it was used on most all Chrysler 6 & V8s for many years. It's not really needed with modern seals used today so most discard it. You can tap the tin shield that holds it off the hub.
