I have a winters quick change with the bearing support broke off, looks like it was a while ago that it broke, mixed thoughts on running it...

Well you can either fix it. Making a new piece and then welding it in there is a workable thing. Some machining involved.

Or buy another housing as the "big" ones aren't that expensive.

But you can't run it like that.

the new light weight ones that we use dont have that support anymore so i dont see why you can not cut it off and clean it up and use it if you go to wenters site they have a pic of the new one.

You can use it like that in a street car...... Long time ago I used one in a stock car that was broke like that......the double front bearing is plenty large in a QC...... The ring & pinion shown is another story.....😏

Personally i dont know that i'd trust cutting the snout off, a street car on pavement takes a lot of abuse i'd say pretty similiar to a full race car on dirt. Your car is probably a lot heavier than a typical race car too. After all, that broke for a reason right?

I could be off here but it looks like the grey/ black appearance is magnesium.
Not a problem for a experienced welder,be sure the piece replacing the missing part is of the same.

    All good answers.
    Yes, it can be done.
It will be weaker than original.
Too expensive to weld and remachine correctly.

If it were mine, I would:
    A. Run it with the bearing Loctited in to the remaining support.

    or

    B. Cut the support out and throw away the bearing.

If I was building for customer, I would sell him a better case.
