"I just signed up this forum today ! I have a 1962 Mercury Monterey Custom 352fe single exhaust, just wondering if someone could tell me if i need to change exhaust manifolds for dual exhaust ?" no. That is no, you don't need to change the exhaust manifolds, not saying no one can tell you if you need to or not.
Thanks for your quick reply. The last time i owned a vehicle with a 352cid was in the early 70's. They both had single exhaust, couldn't remember if you had to change the manifolds.
Any competent exhaust shop can build new exhaust pipes from the manifolds on back for each side. A midway connection between the two, often called either an "H" pipe or "X" pipe, depending on configuration, is helpful.
You don't have to change them, but it sure helps. Those old log manifolds are terribly restrictive and leave 20 to 25 hp on the table. Take them off and put a good set of headers from FPA on and you will be much happier. Also, post up pics of your '62 Merc. They are few and far between and those of us that have them don't get to see other ones very often.
Thanks i was trying to keep it orginal, but you never know ! Never mind the dates, i didn't set the time & date after putting in fresh batteries in the camera . I bought it 2 weeks ago.
ZOMG look at that dash! If you are going from single to dual exhaust, is that not modified from original? I'd go for some long headers. That Mercury is lust worthy.
Very Cool. Thanks for the pics, it is nice to know there is another one around, and only 2 hrs north of me as well. I have a '62 Monterey Wagon, and there is another 4 dr '62 in Grand Forks as well.
Absolutely. You can check out my album, lots of pics of the project there, but most of the latest pics are now on another site. You can check out my build thread on the Suedes Car club Forum. http://www.suedescarclub.com/smf/index.php?topic=2952.0 Here the old gal is at the painters in late June awaiting it's top coat.
I take my hat off to you ! And i admire your guts, time & passion for your projects. Thanks for keeping these Ole Gals alive.
