Anytime before 1980 was a perfect time for Austin....lots of 2 lane blacktop roads, tons of tin sitting around, beer was a buck, barbeque was cheap, you could have open containers, not nearly as many rules, everyone was friendly, Lake Travis was full, times were great.

Wow, you hit it on the head... my sister moved to Austin in about '78 or '79... we used to go down there yearly for visits, and I fell in love with the area...

Then went down about 4 years ago, and again last winter over Xmas, and could not believe how the area has grown, and how much the traffic has changed... really a big city now.......

Still the Salt Lick is awesome, and the Lone Star cold... :)

Well today was a funny old day, went to Austin Speed Shop this morning and met some real nice people.
After lunch I aimed for Mercury Charlie's but while waiting at th lights I heard a loud bang and saw a car spinning towards me !!!
I knew there was nobody behind me so slammed it into reverse which helped but the car still clipped my front bumper, it's still drivable though. Could of been a lot worse !!!
When I see it spinning towards me I though "this might just be a bad one" LOL

Turned out a woman had run the red light and clipped another car which spun my way, both cars look totalled and the other guy was taken to hospital in a bad way, poor fella !!!
I spent the rest of the afternoon filling in forms for the cops, I had dropped off Sue at the shopping mall so had to get her as she was a little worried

I'm gonna try and get to Charlie's again tomorrow morning !!!

Thank god for reverse gears LOL

Thanks, no I didn't take a pic of our silver car, basically the grey car was turning left off the main road, the copper car was coming the other way at I would guess around 55mph, I was sitting at the side road light waiting to turn left , the copper car hit the grey car and went into a spin heading straight at me, I slammed it into reverse and shot back about 25ft and the copper car spun across the front face of my car clipping the front bumper, took off the front license plate and gouged the front bumper, lucky I think !!!

    Hey Steve,

I'm glad you weren't hurt in the wreck. I wish you had come during Roundup time as I would love to meet you in person. Don't forget to try the cornmeal pancakes and love migas at the Magnolia cafe for breakfast. It's a bit of a drive, but the Goodguys car show is in Fort Worth this weekend. Have a great trip.

Glad you and Sue were ok, that could have been really bad if you hadn't thought fast enough to back up.

I was just wondering how you two were doing, glad I saw this thread. Stay safe !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Hi Don, yep you could call it a close call for sure.
We are now at Little River for the day of the drags, pretty cool event, seen a few cars with Hamb tags on them but not caught up with the owners yet.
