I'm in the process of assembling my 327. The short block is just about done. Next on the agenda is getting the valve train together and such. I'd like to check the piston to valve clearance and was wondering if I could re use my rubber coated steel shim head gasket after I check the modeling clay? Thanks

Bolt them on without a gasket and add the thickness of the gasket to your measurement

No you shouldn't reuse the gasket

You should be able to find the compressed thickness of the gasket...don't just Mic the gasket as-is.
