Just wanted to share a few pics of the lace job I did on my old lady's 63 mercury this weekend

Thanks , I just do this for my cars on the side . This was my first try ever at lace , i am absolutely thrilled with how nice it turned out

Any pics for a how to thread?

 

Here is a couple other pics , I 80grit sanded the original paint , sprayed a epoxy primer first , followed by 1k hi build primer , sanded with 400 grit . Decreased very well , tack rag over entire roof . 1 dust coat of silver metallic base base followed by 2 wet coats . Dry for 60 min. Fine line tape panels , followed by mask , cut lace to fit panels . Sprayed lace with coat of low tack spray adhesive . Let sit 5 min , carefully layed on car keeping it tight , tape any loose edges , 2 light dust coats of darker metallic base . Remove lace and mask very carefully . Followed by 3 coats of clear . Now I will wet sand 1500 - 2000 - 3000 grit and buff to a shine .
I am not the best at writing how too but I hope this gives the gist of what I did

Thanks! Never knew about the low-tack spray idea, keeps it from flopping around right? Nice. I've always wanted to do some and your's turned out great and on your first try. The rows look even and straight. I did the top of my '59 'Bird in flake but it would have looked cool in lace too.

I'm glad I could help , make sure when u pull lace that there is no glue residue left before clear
Just to clarify I have painted plenty of cars , just not the lace .

How long did you let it dry before taking the lace off? Right away while it was tacky or completely dry?

The lace looks great . My friend Craig & I did our first lace job on his Shoebox this spring . It's nerve-racking , hoping it goes well , lol ! Not so subtle ...

i was also playing with the tack spray idea once but was concerned about reactions with the paint, we spray some clear on the laces (just for large areas like a roof) so it gets sticky to and you dont have to be scared about chemical reactions
