If looks are all you are concerned about it's probably got that "look" but I'd rather have a good running four barrel and a rally cool air cleaner.
There ya go, but what I was referring to was don't expect a lot of increased performance and the drivability might suck until you really get it dialed in.
2 or 3 carb intake is what he is saying. About 300 bucks. I see Speedway has the two carb adapter for 89 bucks and it's somewhat low profile 130970735650 eBay item number: Or carbs fuel block and all for a whole lot more 130987818434 The SoCal version for twice the money as the speedway one 390639894764 And a vintage Weiand unit 360735199699 I never did find the one from Canada
I know this is slightly different but we ran an Almquist Y adapter for twins on a single carb flathead manifold and year or so later pulled the manifold off and found the fuel distribution wasn't that even and there was signs of pooling in some places. So that's hang on the wall with the others now.
He only puts them on ebay as he builds them, but he said he could throw one together for me if i wanted.
I had a similar setup from Vintage Speed on my 23, except mine had two Rochester two barrels. Haters are gonna hate, but that never bothered me . I did like the look a lot better than the single Edelbrock 4 barrel, it filled up the top of the motor a lot better. I do have to say the single 4 barrel ran better and got better gas mileage, but I was still glad I put the two twos on . $500 is a good price, Vintage Speed was getting $ 700 about 6 years ago when I bought mine. I say if you want it do it. Don
JMO, but that isn't going to make it look old. It's going to make it look like new stuff that's trying to look old, but not doing a very good job of it. The Holley 4160 series carbs came out in 1958, and the look really hasn't changed too much. If you're really concerned about it, track down an 1849 (550cfm) or 1850 (600cfm), as they both date back to 1958/1959, and throw a rebuild kit at it. Use the flat head screw bowl screws, and even track down the old wedge scripted float bowls. An old carb will have that greenish look to it. Carter AFB's came out in 1960. They remained pretty much unchanged through the 90's when Edelbrock started marketing them. Either of those carbs should run circles around that getup, offering power, economy, dependability, and repairability. And they will still have the HAMB friendly late 50's/early 60's look. And if people say they aren't 'trad' enough, educate them. Again, JMO
I've seen one. It was for sale here a few years ago, and the guy was kind of wishy washy about it. I think it was made by C&P, took Delloroto carbs, and would have been a nightmare (for me) to tune. Still, I would have bought it! And I tried to! '27 T Roadster build: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=734383
Not to be nitpicky, but both the "modern" Holley four barrel and the Carter AFB debuted in 1957. I agree that the new 2X2 adapters don't look vintage, they just look hokey. The Almquist adapters of old were basically used by high school kids who couldn't afford a real dual intake for their flathead. A sbc with an early factory intake with the front oil spout and either a Rochester 4GC or Carter WCFB looks more "period correct" than the contraption pictured in this thread.
You said it well don,and i think a four barrell carb on a open hood rod looks terrible! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
