And so, it begin's...



Believe it or not, this is the simple & easy way I do wires, besides, I have to route them MY way, not the way the kit had it set up.
It will be oh so fun.



Engine is starting to come together, I found the right side Thermetic spacer in my stash, so that will be going on soon.
I've come to notice I don't follow a path, Just kind of work on little bits of one area at a time.

It's slowly getting done. A lot of the original routing and wiring is hard to duplicate, so I've been making it work. The best thing about working at a parts store is easy access to everything I need. I hope to have it able to power itself up by next week. A victim of time with work and all.

I love Cadillacs, I recently just picked up a 51 series 62 this is pure inspiration for me to get to work on overhauling the motor. Keep on posting.

 

Mini update.

85% of the car is wired, I go to check my turn signals and somehow when one of the wires that only runs to the turn signal, lights both turn signals, the indicators, and the dash lights. Any ideas?

New drive-shaft will be in Friday, New PS hose installed, modified Transmission cross-member is in and fits fantastic. (Perfect engine pitch too), engine is almost ready to fire.

I'm just chipping & chipping at it. Have to keep at it if I want to drive it this year.

 

Nice fitment of the new driveshaft I had made up at work. Only needed to be 4" longer then the stock and 1/2" bigger diameter.

I keep chipping away at it, slow, but its getting done.
Only tasks left.

+ 6" brake line & Bleed
+ Hard power-steering line
+ 10 wires
+ Distributor & Wires
+ Finish mounting the Gener-Nator
+ Few other little bits

Then...

...!!!FIRE!!!

But, I have to actually get out and work on it, heats had me getting lazy.
But on the tenth I had a heap of help for a club party at my house.
It will be done, soon.

 

Now I'll state it now, I'ts not pretty but it works.
Finished the bracket, Boss welded it up and I had it trimmed down.
Mounts to the header bolt & the hole in the front of the engine.
It's going to get painted black & tucked under the generator out of sight.

Onward I go.

 

Cool! Gonna have it done before snow flies?

Sorry if you referenced already and I missed it... what's your source on that. I rebuilt my generator but I'm still having charging issues.

Guys did a top notch job. Price is steep but its a nice addition.

 

Little more done on it, things have been very busy.
Things are not coming out pretty, But its working, That's good enough for me.
New gas pedal to replace the rotted/binding original system.
Gener-Nator bracket finished, Its a little high I know but clearance was an issue.
Went to put the radiator in, Turns out the fan hits it AND the outlet was on the wrong side. (1953 radiator, 1957 Engine). So I had it moved to the other side & cleaned.
Now to just cut apart and re-work the core support. Shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Good news, got the radiator to fit & it came out really well.
Chopped it in two, sunk the radiator to the opposed face, drilled some holes and mounted it back in.
Now the fan clears and its actually quite close to the original spacing from the radiator face.

Now to tie it back together so the hood latch has a mounting area.

 

So the home stretch, all my list is crossed off except for the last buts.
checked the car with power too it. Didn't burn up or short so excellent.
This week or weekend, I'll turn the key.

It's really quiet in the video, But in person it was very bass hit filled & loud.
Only needed yo adjust the idle & the timing by about 1/4 inch turn.
Pretty tame for open headers.

Here's a pic of the air cleaner finally on. With the adapter to go from the edelbrock carb size to the smaller 53' cleaner.

Drove it, got in, started, shift, gas drove it.

Lost brakes & it wont lift out of 2nd. But it drove.
But its safe in the driveway and my heart is pegged.
I don't have a video. But I will later when I can.

Sweet, I saw a '51 out on the street just Sunday; I have been thinking about early Caddies all week.

 

Congratulations. make absolutely sure that the TV cable on the 700R4 is adjusted properly or you'll kill it.

 

I dont think I even did a mile yesterday, maybe 3/4. But it will be towed to the trans shop that rebuilt it, They guy wants to adjust it himself & I'm not entirely sure how to myself.
It has a new cable and the Edelbrock bracket that lines it up perfect.

It"s all there, but cut wires and blown tubes keep it from working.

I may or my not have jumped around like a mad-man.
I ran back to the car for the second test drive. (Brake failure one), like I was running from the cops.

 

Brake problem was crud on the tube seat, Cleaned it and re tightened, Works perfectly.
Adjusted the detent and went again last night. Right on the money for shifting, Just a bit slow on downshifting.
But, The bugs are getting worked out quickly. I'm getting the seat back this weekend, Then its time for exhaust. Porters & as few bends as needed.
